Individual Therapy for Teens and Young Adults

Sometimes we all need extra support. Whether you are struggling with life transitions, dependency, anxiety, depression, domestic violence, relationship issues, or parenting challenges, I can help guide you through the rough patches. Together, we can investigate the patterns that block you and identify and develop the skills you need to move forward and experience a fulfilling life.

If you are a parent whose child is in need of more help than you know how to provide, I can connect with your adolescent or young adult in individual sessions on his or her level to help break the negative cycles of behavior that may be creating chaos in both your lives.

Family Therapy

Significant change can occur faster and more effectively when developed in relationship. As a family you can:

  • Understand individual and family needs

  • Identify negative patterns and shift them

  • Create healthy boundaries and deepen the connection with one another

  • Improve communication

  • Take home tools to support and encourage ongoing growth

Group Therapy

During group therapy sessions (co-led with my colleague), the goal is to explore and discover things one may not yet know about oneself. As a therapist, I focus on heightening an individual’s awareness about his/her internal process as well as how s/he perceives and is perceived by others. I believe deepening one’s relationship with oneself will naturally lead a person to have more authentic, healthy relationships with others. In session, we:

  • Explore motives behind various types of behavior: excitement seeking, wanting to fit in, feeling inadequate, bullying

  • Help group members consider the consequences of their actions

  • Uncover the thoughts and beliefs that foster low self-esteem and challenge them while discovering the individual’s unique qualities and strengths

Length and Duration

The length of a session varies depending on the needs of the client. Typically, individual sessions are 50 minutes in length, while group and family sessions are 1.5 hours. Over time, family sessions may shorten once the family is able to put into practice, at home, the tools they learned while in session. The duration of work is usually determined on a case-by-case basis. Individuals or families who are engaged and motivated to make positive changes will likely experience a shorter duration. Group session length and duration vary according to specific groups.
