Workshops and Groups

Workshops

Single parenting/United parenting

I work with parents to create a framework to address parenting challenges, help identify various resources for self-care, and define ineffective vs. effective parenting styles. We work together to enhance listening and communication skills, discuss how to deal with power struggles, define boundaries, and implement clear, effective, and age-appropriate consequences.

How to cope with trauma

Learn how to support your child through loss, domestic violence, divorce, substance abuse, and life transitions.

Raising a resilient child

In this workshop, we explore the impact of media influences, peer pressure, and bullying on adolescents and how you can effectively instill confidence, strong values, empathy, and compassion in your teen. We discuss anxiety, depression, and substance abuse issues, identify which temperament most resembles your teen, and develop a list of healthy coping mechanisms to address his or her potential challenges.

Groups

Is your adolescent really prepared for college?

A group for 18+ young adults that addresses possible situations college-aged individuals may be confronted with and strategies on how to successfully navigate through these potential pitfalls.

Does your teen think drugs and alcohol are cool?

This group is designed for adolescents between the ages of 15-17. Topics include the legal and lethal consequences of substance use, identifying healthy coping skills and choices, developing support systems, and making use of available resources.

Behind the Screen

This is a group for adolescents between the ages of 15-17. Various genres of music, TV programs, internet sites, and advertisements are examined. Group discussion and process allow adolescents to develop a deeper awareness of how these media outlets impact their choices.

Opening the World Alumni Panel Discussions

These discussions based on the alumni’s personal and OTW experiences can be arranged upon request for a minimum group of 7 adolescents (i.e., A group for your child and his/her friends or peers).
